In addition to managing all marketing activity for Amex's Consumer Card business in the U.S., Howard leads the marketing for Amex Advance, a data-driven business that partners with companies across the advertising, travel, and service industries to deliver curated personalization services optimized for their customers. Leveraging best-in-class predictive machine learning, deep consumer insights, connectivity capabilities, and an integrated platform, Amex Advance transforms its deterministic data insights into customized solutions to solve partners’ key business challenges.
Howard will be interviewed in a fireside chat by Steve Arthur, Managing Director, Financial Services Partnerships, at Google. The conversation will the address not only the impact of technology on consumers' credit card and payment experience, but on the marketing of those services as well.

EVP/General Manager, U.S. Consumer Mktg Services
Howard Grosfield currently serves as Executive Vice President & General Manager of U.S. Consumer Marketing Services at American Express. In this role, he manages and leads all marketing activity for the U.S. Consumer Card business including new customer acquisition, cardmember marketing and engagement, operational excellence and the Amex Advance business. Prior to this role, Howard was President and Chief Executive Officer of American Express Bank of Canada and Executive Vice President of ICSS Canada and International Premium Products. In this role, Howard led the Canadian Executive Team and also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Express Bank of Canada. Howard joined American Express in 2004 in New York as a Vice President in the Strategic Planning Group. He subsequently led Regional Marketing & Strategy for Latin America & Canada and then became Vice President & General Manager for the Company’s International Small Business Services Division. Before joining American Express, Howard spent several years as a Principal with The Boston Consulting Group. He was also a lawyer with Osler in Toronto. Howard currently serves as an Independent Director on the Board of Indigo Books & Music Inc. as well as the company’s HR Committee. He resides in New York with his wife and two daughters.

Stephen Arthur leads Google’s focus on driving digitization and growth in the Financial Services sector. He helps companies maximize profit in a complicated world of accelerating consumer expectations and dynamic industry trends. Google has seven major platforms, each with over one billion users, including Google Search, YouTube, GMail, Maps, Chrome, Android, and the Google Play Store, and it’s Steve’s job to connect these billions of users to a more fulfilling and rewarding life through our partners’ financial products. In addition to Steve's core responsibilities, he also is active in Google's internal diversity and inclusion efforts and culture steering committees. Steve has been at Google for eight years, and prior to this has held various strategy and marketing roles at Hasbro, Polaroid, and Zone Labs. He earned a BS in Physics from Penn State University and an MBA from Babson College. He also proudly served as an officer in the US Navy on the USS Racine and USS Princeton.
