The FCS is proud to again partner with Edelman to bring our members and broader community a dynamic virtual event to explore the latest research from the 2021 Edelman Trust Barometer. Join us on April 15, when Deidre Campbell, Edelman's Chair, Financial Services Sector, will present key findings specific to our industry. She will then moderate a panel discussion with:

  • Jennifer Mathissen, Chief Marketing Officer, Santander U.S.
  • Emily Pachuta, Chief Marketing & Analytics Officer - Americas, Invesco
  • Beth Wood, SVP, Chief Marketing Officer, Principal Financial Group

The 2021 annual Edelman Trust Barometer is the world’s most robust exploration of trust, surveying 33,000 respondents in 28 markets. The report examines today’s re-balancing of power, assessing which institutions are gaining and losing trust and providing insights to help executives chart a path forward. 

Below are some of the themes we expect our panel to discuss: 

  • Has business delivered on its multi-stakeholder promise in the context of pandemic-related disruptions, job losses and addressing issues of racial justice?   
  • How well are we responding to not only the pandemic, but also the infodemic — the ongoing battle for truth amid skepticism of science-based solutions to our challenges? 
  • How are businesses and the financial services industry performing against multi-stakeholder expectations? 
  • What is the role of businesses and especially marketers in this new environment? What steps are they taking and what steps should they take to meet stakeholder needs?

Jennifer Mathissen is Santander N.A.’s newly-named Chief Marketing Officer, and recently started her position on November 1, 2020. In her role, she is responsible for being a strategic partner in driving business growth and customer loyalty. She also oversees the customer experience team. Jennifer has more than 20 years of experience, with expertise in acquisition marketing, building brands, launching products and developing digital customer experiences. Prior to Santander, Jennifer honed her skills during her time at CVS Health, leading Enterprise Insights, at Epsilon Agency (formerly Catapult) and McKinsey & Co. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Mount Holyoke College.

Emily PachutaPanelist

EVP, Chief Marketing & Analytics Officer

Invesco

Emily Pachuta is Chief Marketing & Analytics Officer for the Americas at Invesco. In this role, she sets the overall advanced analytics and marketing strategy designed to accelerate business growth by driving client demand and strengthening Invesco’s reputation with US and Canadian wealth management intermediary and institutional clients. She and her team are responsible for integrating distribution and marketing technology platforms, data science, client insights and digital experience to anticipate and respond to clients in real-time and in context. Ms. Pachuta also serves as an executive leader on the firm’s Global Marketing and Global Digital priorities. Ms. Pachuta joined Invesco from BlackRock where she was a Managing Director and responsible for setting the US retail marketing strategy for BlackRock and iShares. Prior to that role, she served as head of Client Marketing and Investor Insights for UBS where she oversaw client marketing and digital experience. She has also held a variety of senior marketing positions at Lincoln Financial Group and Merrill Lynch. Ms. Pachuta has been a frequent media spokesperson and conference speaker about investor mindset and behavior, as well as generational trends. Emily holds a BA from Yale University and an MFA from New York University.

Beth Wood is senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Principal Financial Group®. She is responsible for global marketing and customer experience. Her team is primarily focused on brand strategy, media, public relations, social media, performance marketing, content strategy and development, analytics, market research, customer experience, design & innovation, integrated marketing and meeting and event planning. Beth joined Principal® in July 2019. Prior to Principal, Beth was vice president and chief marketing officer of the individual businesses for Guardian Life Insurance in New York City. Her responsibilities included leading digital marketing transformation across the life, disability, annuity, and wealth management businesses. She held this role since 2016. Before that, she served as second vice president, life and agency marketing at Guardian. Beth has more than 25 years’ experience as a brand and marketing leader. She’s held numerous marketing leadership roles in the consumer-packaged goods and healthcare industries, with companies such as Frito-Lay and Johnson & Johnson. Beth earned her BS in marketing communications from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. She’s also earned her digital marketing certification from Cornell University and a digital transformation certificate from the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Deidre Campbell is the Chair of Edelman’s Financial Services Sector, comprising 650 team members in 33 offices around the world. Focused on building trusted relationships with key stakeholders, the team partners with financial services companies around the world to evolve their communications and marketing.  For the last 25 years, Deidre has designed results-oriented programs encompassing traditional/social media relations, executive communications, social impact, stakeholder mapping, content creation and digital activations. Deidre advises the C-suite on issues such as reputation management, regulatory change, fintech disruption and the role customer experience plays in the industry. Deidre is a frequent speaker on the topic of Trust in financial services at institutions, NGO’s, professional/trade organizations and in the fintech community, including Financial Health Network’s Annual Meeting, FundForum, Money 20/20, and the HOPE Global Forum. She has been featured in many top-tier publications, including the BBC, CNBC.com, Harvard Business Review, LinkedIn’s “Currency of Trust” series and the Wall Street Journal. Since 2010, Deidre has served on the Board of the Council for Economic Education, the preeminent U.S. financial services literacy foundation teaching economics and personal finance to K-12 students. She is a trustee of the Institute for Public Relations since 2019, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to fostering greater use of research and research-based knowledge in public relations and corporate communication practice. For ten years, she served on the Financial Women’s Association Board. Deidre holds a B.A. in political science from George Washington University.
