Position Description

A tremendous career opportunity exists for a communications professional to join BNY Mellon Investment Management’s North American Communications team to promote and protect the reputation of BNY Mellon Investment Management and its eight investment firms.

The individual would work within an established communications team and report to the Director of NA Communications to develop and drive an integrated media relations program based on best practices, shared ideas, and executional excellence. This role would include the following responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of the team’s proactive media relations program with top-tier media for BNY Mellon Investment Management, its senior leadership team, North American Global Distribution and its specialist investment firms.
  • Identify, develop, and pitch news and feature stories with the top-tier and leading trade press.
  • Under general guidance, lead and implement communications programs around expected IM news flow, business announcements, and issues management assignments.
  • Collaborate with Content and Marketing teams to put an appropriate media spotlight on intellectual capital from BNY Mellon Investment Management.
  • Coordinate the delivery of finalized programs and content, ensuring appropriate approvals and sign-offs before launch.
  • Support IM’s internal communications program (e.g., copywriting, video production, distribution, and logistics, etc.) around news flow and key events.
  • Partner with communications colleagues based in New York, London and Australia, and external agencies.
  • Support the communications metrics and measurement program.

Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Solid media relations background; including established media contacts and relationships.
  • Exceptional writing skills; ability to distill information and tease out the key elements for proactive communications.
  • Strong verbal communication skills; ability to work directly with senior executives; and experience to anticipate client needs and help steer strategic discussions.
  • A collaborative approach to working with colleagues and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills; strong multi-tasker.
  • Relentless attention to detail and strong reporting skills.

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of total work experience preferred.
  • Background in a corporate or agency communications setting, preferably within a financial services environment or asset management (institutional or retail asset management).
  • Proven experience in external and internal communications, social media and collaboration tools is preferred.
