YMC Real Talks: The Business of Being Human, Vol. 3
Recap
In a captivating conclusion to the FCS Young Members Circle event series, The Business of Being Human, Volume 3 unfolded with a one-on-one conversation featuring Dara Marshall, Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase & Co. with host Chris Konowitz of FCS YMC leadership and Hearst Magazines. Dara’s extensive experience in integrated marketing and brand management set the stage for an evening rich with insights into the delicate balance of professional and personal life.
The event, held at Hearst’s NYC headquarters on Thursday, January 25, welcomed attendees, eager to glean wisdom from Dara’s illustrious career which has spanned working for renowned brands including American Express, Chubb, Coca-Cola, and more. The focus of the discussion centered on the dynamic interplay of brand vision, advertising, and marketing efforts across Corporate Impact, Corporate Responsibility, DEI, and Employer Brand on a global scale.
Dara’s journey through the worlds of advertising agencies to managing prestige brands provided a backdrop for a conversation that touched on the essence of curiosity, courage, and collaboration. Attendees were treated to anecdotes and reflections on her experiences with Fortune 500 brands, highlighting the importance of understanding the bitter to savor the sweet in both professional and personal endeavors.
One standout theme from the interview was the idea of ‘deja vu’ moments as signals you’re on the right path. Dara shared her belief that these moments signify living one’s true future, a sentiment that resonated deeply with the audience. Emphasizing the role of emotion in forging connections, she stressed the value of selling not just products but also the values that an organization contributes to the broader human experience.
As Dara delved into her first project of building purpose and reengaging people, the audience gained valuable insights into how organizations can align with societal needs. The discussion echoed the event’s underlying theme: the Business of Being Human isn’t just about transactions, it’s about creating meaningful connections and contributing positively to the world.
The event provided a platform for professional growth while also showcasing the commitment of FCS YMC to philanthropy. Whitney Shephard from Child Mind Institute presented on the organization’s mission to provide transformational care to children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders by giving them the help they need.
