Our September 20th “Cocktails with Content” reception focused on “Sports Marketing: Sponsorship Strategies” with two CMOs stepping into the spotlight: Lauren Boyman of KPMG US and Cheryl Gilberg of Mizuho Americas. The conversation was moderated by FCS Vice Chair Tom Jago of The Ward Group.

Our guest speakers kicked off the discussion by offering the sold-out audience a glimpse into their career trajectory and detailing their current roles and responsibilities within their respective firms. One of the early focal points of the discussion centered around what motivated their firms to wade into the world of sports sponsorships. It wasn’t just about placing their company name on a banner but was deeply tied to the ethos and branding strategy of their companies. Both Cheryl and Lauren highlighted the supportive stance from leadership, which saw the potential of aligning with sports, especially women’s sports.

Cheryl’s shared the impact of Mizuho’s partnership with LPGA icon Michelle Wie West, who appeared in a TV spot as part of the “A Name Worth Knowing” brand campaign. The choice to host the Mizuho Americas Open at the Liberty National Golf Club earlier this year resonated deeply with the company’s values of opportunity, equity, and fostering the next generation’s talents.

Discussing KPMG LPGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club, Lauren discussed her company’s unwavering commitment to the cause of women’s advancement and empowerment, further exemplified by the inaugural KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit hosted during Championship week. Lauren shared a video that captured the in-depth data analytics provided by KPMG to the LPGA.

While the pros of sports sponsorships were plenty, both CMOs didn’t shy away from discussing its challenges, particularly measuring the elusive ROI. They emphasized, however, the undeniable positive effects these events have on cementing client relationships and boosting employee morale.

A poignant moment in the evening came when Lauren and Cheryl shared personal anecdotes behind their chosen children’s charities. Lauren’s pick, Austism Speaks, and Cheryl’s choice, the NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome (NJCTS), each received a donation of $1,000 from the FCS, as part of our ongoing philanthropic mission.

The FCS New York “Cocktails with Content” series will have a special focus on Wednesday, September 20, when the conversation spotlights “Sports Marketing: Sponsorship Strategies with 2023 LPGA Championships.” Our guest speakers are two Chief Marketing Officers from title sponsors for two LPGA tournaments played this year in New Jersey. Join us for a one-of-a-kind conversation with:

  • Lauren Boyman, CMO, KPMG US
  • Cheryl Gilberg, CMO, Mizuho Americas

In gratitude to Lauren and Cheryl, the FCS will be make two $1,000 donations to the children’s charities of their choice. Lauren has selected Austism Speaks, and Cheryl has selected NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome (NJCTS).

Overlooking the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline, Liberty National Golf Club was the location for the Mizuho Americas Open (May 29-June 4). As the founding partner, Mizuho Americas “envisioned a unique LPGA partnership aligned with their shared values of opportunity, equity, and advancing the next generation of talent.” Girls Inc. was the non-profit partner for the event, which was hosted by LPGA icon and Major Champion Michelle Wie West.

For the first time, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 22-25) was held at historic Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, which previously hosted 11 men’s major championships. As the first partnership between the LPGA Tour, PGA of America, and KPMG, the sponsorship demonstrated KPMG’s commitment to the development, advancement, and empowerment of women. The KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit was held on-site during Championship week.

Moderating the “behind the scenes” / marketing strategy conversation with Cheryl and Lauren will be FCS Vice Chair Tom Jago of The Ward Group.

We’re excited to stage this special event at the NYC headquarters of Vested, conveniently located at East 25th Street and Park Avenue.
