Recap
Season 3 of FCS MOVES (Members Only Virtual Event Series) continued on Thursday, October 20th with a one-on-one interview featuring Wylie Kain, Head of Brand Marketing, American Century Investments, and FCS Programming Committee Chair John McCormick, Vice President of Agency Partnerships, AdNode.
Wylie started off the conversation by sharing a personal anecdote on her evolution from native Bostonian to a self-described New Yorker! She offered insights into the motivations behind her career arc, beginning with her start in the advertising agency world, and her experience working with such brands as General Mills and Proctor & Gamble during her tenure at Saatchi and Saatchi. She also shared her personal and professional motivations for stepping away from the agency world to pursue a career as a health coach, and a serendipitous opportunity that presented itself with E*TRADE, which changed the course of her career and ultimately led to her role with American Century Investments.
Wylie shared the vision and mission behind American Century and what makes the investment manager truly unique. She explained how the personal experience of its founders led to the firm putting an equal emphasis on financial independence as on personal health; this resulted in the creation of the Stowers Institute, informing the firm’s culture and its messaging to the world. Wylie spoke to her learnings over the last two years since joining American Century, the value and importance of marketing planning, and the role that research can play in effectively informing the marketing strategy.
Wylie shared a very interesting campaign for the American Century Championship where a virtual celebrity-signed golf ball was created and then minted into an NFT, which was auctioned during the event – with 100% of the net proceeds going back to the Stowers Institute. Watch a brief video clip.
Wylie and John provided a wonderful and insightful conversation with a glimpse into the marketing mindset at a unique firm in the investment management space.
In gratitude to Wylie’s participation in FCS MOVES, the FCS donated $1,000 to the children’s charity of her choice, which was the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
