On September 21st, Michael Cohen sat for an interview with Eric van den Heuvel, Managing Director of The Gate New York, agency of record for Tradeweb. As Global Head of Marketing & Communications, Michael spoke to the firm’s evolution as a company and a brand.

Tradeweb was born on the internet in 1998 as a marketplace for fixed income. It went public four years ago and today boasts a $20 billion market cap. An original fintech company, it has evolved into a markets company and a software company. Tradeweb operates a robust markets-data business that features more than 40 products for mostly institutional clients in 65 countries who trade credit, rates, money markets and equities.

As a B2B company in the behavior-change business, Tradeweb faces a unique set of challenges.  Engaged with 2,500 firms around the world, the firm focuses primarily on additional engagement from its existing global client base — versus focusing marketing efforts on lead generation.  It utilizes content marketing, accounts-based marketing and numerous events to tell its story and affect its clients’ behavior.Tradeweb is an innovation type company built on an idea of developing products based on collaboration with clients.  It employs a flat organization in which employees are encouraged to bring forward passion projects and new ideas via open forums to keep marketing plans — and themselves — fresh.
